ISLAMIC, Time of the Rashidun. Pseudo-Byzantine types. Fals (Bronze, 16 mm, 4.46 g, 7 h), a dodekanummia from Alexandria of crude style. Probably minted under Arab authority, Alexandria, After Dhu'l Hijja AH 20 = after November AD 641. Imperial figure standing facing, wearing crown surmounted by cross, holding long cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. Rev. Cross potent on globe between I and B; in field to left, pellet; in field to right, pellet; in exergue, AΛЄΞ. Goodwin: Some Aspects of 7th C Egyptian Byzantine Coinage, Fig 8c. Struck on a somewhat short flan, otherwise, very fine.
